Supporting Teen Executive Functioning Skills

Now that you have considered the current level of functioning within the executive functioning skills categories, we’ll now go through an exercise that helps pinpoint the most important areas to focus on and help support. On the Interactive Executive Functions Chart below, you can touch each EF pie piece in order to indicate a number between 1 and 10. For this scale, ask yourself how you FEEL about each area of Executive Functions.

On a scale from 1-10, indicate how you feel about your teen’s current Executive Functioning Skills in each domain- 1 being couldn’t be worse, and 10 being couldn’t be better.

Now, rank each skillset from the ones you feel best about, to the ones you feel worst about.

What do you notice?

One of the most interesting parts about our executive functions is how they interplay with each other, and the most fascinating for me is Emotional Regulation. This is because of it’s impact on every other executive function.
