EXECUTIVE FUNCTIONS COACHING

Through the AWARENESS of what our Executive Functions are, and UNDERSTANDING of who we are and want to be, we find the RESPONSIBILITY to plan & prioritize our time in order to create the ACTION necessary to make it happen.”

-Paul M. Benton

It took multiple degrees in education and decades of experience in schools to finally land in the most helpful and supportive role I’ve found working with young people: Executive Functions Coaching. While especially well-suited for teens and families juggling ADHD, EF Coaching is also supportive for all teens as adolescence is the time of life when Executive Functioning Skills develop as habits, and these habits are the ones brought into adulthood. Despite this being the normal and natural developmental process for all humans, it is largely ignored in our systems of education. Instead, it’s common to hear

EF Coaching dives deep into how this part of our brain works, the role of emotions in our motivations, tips and tricks to build executive functioning skills, and most importantly, helps teens build a strong sense of self as this is what’s used to navigate life.

Build Resiliency, Communication Skills, Planning/Prioritizing, Calendaring, and most importantly, find the Responsibility to make it all happen!

AWARENESS

  • We learn the ins and outs of how our executive functions operate

  • Take a deep dive into how our emotions work

  • And, if ADHD is present, we also learn deeply about what that is and how it shows up individually.

UNDERSTANDING

  • Knowing where you are going means knowing where you are at. We assess everything from each executive functioning skill all the way to values and preferences because they all matter in developing healthy executive functioning.

  • We work to develop a vision of the self in the future- something exciting that feels good working toward.

RESPONSIBILITY

  • Knowing where you are at and knowing where you want to go creates a path in which to travel that’s worth traveling. From this space, we identify all the goals, priorities, and actionable steps that are necessary to get there.

  • We create, utilize, and adapt an individual organizational/agenda system to fine tune a system that actually supports all the struggles executive dysfunction/adhd can bring.

  • We learn to articulate ourselves in all the difficult ways life presents. Email the teacher, say how we feel, say I’m sorry, etc…

ACTION

  • Where the rubber hits the road! With well thought out plans in place, we walk them through while reflecting on what’s working, adjusting what’s not, and celebrating what is.
